Zhuge Jun was the younger brother of Zhuge Liang. Together with Zhuge Liang, who had lost their father early, he followed their uncle Zhuge Xuan to his post as Administrator of Yuzhang, and his office rose to Colonel of the Changshui. The Records give him no biography of his own; his name appears only twice in the Biography of Zhuge Liang, and the dates of his birth and death are not recorded. Records, Shu 5 §2 · 43
In the Romance his name first appears in Chapter 36, in the passage where Xu Shu, recommending Zhuge Liang, says that Zhuge Liang farmed with his own hands in Nanyang together with his younger brother Zhuge Jun. In Chapter 37 he receives Liu Bei, who has come on his second visit, in the thatched hall, tells him that his brother is away and takes charge of a letter, and in Chapter 38 he is charged by Zhuge Liang, who is leaving the mountains to follow Liu Bei, to stay behind and tend the fields. Romance, Ch. 36 §34Romance, Ch. 37 §34–35 · 39Romance, Ch. 38 §21
His name appears in 3 of the Romance's 120 chapters, Chapters 36, 37 and 38; no chapter has his name in its title. Romance, Ch. 36 §34Romance, Ch. 37 §35Romance, Ch. 38 §24
Zhuge Jun's elder brother Zhuge Liang was a man of Yangdu County in Langya State, who lost early his father Zhuge Gui, Assistant of Taishan Commandery at the end of the Han. When their uncle Zhuge Xuan was appointed Administrator of Yuzhang by Yuan Shu, Zhuge Xuan took Zhuge Liang and Zhuge Liang's younger brother Zhuge Jun with him to his post. Just then the Han court chose Zhu Hao to replace Zhuge Xuan, and Zhuge Xuan went to seek refuge with Liu Biao, Governor of Jing Province, with whom he had long been on friendly terms. Records, Shu 5 §2
At the end of the Biography of Zhuge Liang, after recording that in the spring of the 6th year of Jingyao (263) a temple to Zhuge Liang was erected at Mianyang and that in the autumn of that year Zhong Hui offered sacrifices at the temple, Chen Shou wrote that Zhuge Liang's younger brother Zhuge Jun rose in office to Colonel of the Changshui. He did not say when Zhuge Jun attained that office or when he died. Records, Shu 5 §43
In Chapter 36 of the Romance, Xu Shu recommends Zhuge Liang to Liu Bei and tells him of his background. Zhuge Liang had followed his uncle Zhuge Xuan, and because Zhuge Xuan had an old friendship with Liu Jingsheng (Liu Biao) of Jing Province, he went to seek refuge with him and settled his household in Xiangyang. After Zhuge Xuan died, Zhuge Liang farmed with his own hands in Nanyang together with his younger brother Zhuge Jun, and because the ridge where he lived was called Wolong Ridge, he styled himself Master Sleeping Dragon. Romance, Ch. 36 §33–34
In Chapter 37, Liu Bei, together with Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, visits Zhuge Liang a second time amid the wind and snow of midwinter. Following the page boy as far as the middle gate, Liu Bei sees a young man in the thatched hall, hugging his knees beside a brazier and singing that the phoenix will not roost except on the wutong tree, and the scholar will not rely on anyone but his true lord. When the song ends, Liu Bei goes up into the hall, pays his respects and says that he has long admired him, but the young man hastily returns the courtesy and asks whether he is not Liu of Yuzhou, come to see his elder brother. Romance, Ch. 37 §26 · 32–34
The young man reveals that he is Zhuge Jun, the Sleeping Dragon's younger brother, and that of the three brothers the eldest, Zhuge Jin, is serving as a retainer under Sun Zhongmou (Sun Quan) in Jiangdong, while Kongming is the second. He says that the Sleeping Dragon went out yesterday by arrangement with Cui Zhouping, and that since he sometimes sails a small boat about the rivers and lakes and sometimes visits monks or Taoists on the mountain ridges, his comings and goings cannot be predicted and he does not know where he has gone. When Liu Bei laments that for the second time he has failed to meet the great worthy, Zhuge Jun invites him to sit a while and offers him tea, and to Liu Bei's question whether he can tell him about his elder brother's reputed mastery of the art of war and stratagems, he answers only that he does not know. Romance, Ch. 37 §35–36
As Zhang Fei urges an early return because the wind and snow are fierce, Zhuge Jun says that since his elder brother is not at home he dare not detain them long, and that he will call on them another day to return the courtesy. Liu Bei says he will come again in a few days, borrows paper and brush to write a letter, hands the finished letter to Zhuge Jun for safekeeping, and takes his leave. Zhuge Jun, who has come out to see him off, tells Liu Bei from behind, as Liu Bei dismounts and pays his respects to a man riding a donkey and chanting a poem in the belief that he is truly the Sleeping Dragon, that this is not his elder brother but his elder brother's father-in-law, Huang Chengyan. Romance, Ch. 37 §37 · 39 · 41–42
In Chapter 38, Liu Bei, together with Guan Yu and Zhang Fei, visits Longzhong for the third time, dismounts half a li from the thatched cottage to walk, and meets Zhuge Jun. Asked whether his elder brother is at home, Zhuge Jun says that he returned only yesterday evening, so they will be able to see him today, and then goes off lightly on his own way. Zhang Fei calls him rude for going off as he pleased when he might well have taken them to the house, but Liu Bei says that each has his own business and he cannot be compelled. Romance, Ch. 38 §4–5
Zhuge Liang, having decided to leave the mountains, charges Zhuge Jun when he returns the next day: having received the kindness of Imperial Uncle Liu's three visits, he cannot but go out; Zhuge Jun is to farm here with his own hands and not let the fields go to waste, and on the day his work is accomplished he will come straight back to live in seclusion. Liu Bei and the other two take leave of Zhuge Jun and return to Xinye with Zhuge Liang. This is the last time Zhuge Jun's name appears in the Romance. Romance, Ch. 38 §19 · 21 · 24
