Profile
Liang Yu was a Colonel under Sun Quan. He has no biography of his own in the Records, and in Chen Shou's text he appears once, in the Biography of the Lord of Wu in Records of Wu 2. Sun Quan sent the Colonel Liang Yu to present tribute to the Han court. The Biography of the Lord of Wu records this after the entry on the capture of Guan Yu and the pacification of Jing Province in the 12th month of the 24th year of Jian'an (219), and before the entry on the death of Lord Cao in the 1st month, in spring, of the 25th year (220). Records, Wu 2 §28–30
Chen Shou's text does not record Liang Yu's courtesy name, origins, other deeds or death, and Chen Shou did not treat him in his assessment for volume 2 either. He does not appear in the Romance. Records, Wu 2 §29 · 115
In the Records
In the 24th year of Jian'an (219) Sun Quan campaigned against Guan Yu. In the 12th month Ma Zhong, Major under Pan Zhang, captured Guan Yu, his son Guan Ping, the Commander Zhao Lei and others at Zhangxiang, and Jing Province was at last pacified. Lord Cao submitted a memorial making Sun Quan General of Agile Cavalry, granting him the tally of authority and the concurrent post of Governor of Jing Province, and enfeoffing him as Marquis of Nanchang. Records, Wu 2 §26–28
Sun Quan sent the Colonel Liang Yu to present tribute to the Han court. He also had Wang Dun buy horses, and sent Zhu Guang and others back. In the 1st month, in spring, of the following year, the 25th (220), Lord Cao died. Chen Shou's text does not state in which month Liang Yu took the tribute. Records, Wu 2 §29–30
This passage is the only place in Chen Shou's text where Liang Yu appears. In his assessment for volume 2, Chen Shou said that Sun Quan humbled himself and endured disgrace, entrusted affairs to men of talent and valued stratagems, but he did not treat Liang Yu. Records, Wu 2 §29 · 115
