In the Romance
In Chapter 94 of the Romance, as Sima Yi, having received the emperor's edict, is summoning the troops of the various routes at Wancheng, a member of the household of Shen Yi, Administrator of Jincheng, comes and tells him in detail of Meng Da's plan to rebel. Then Meng Da's confidant Li Fu and Meng Da's nephew Deng Xian also come forward together with a written accusation and inform on him. Saying that Meng Da must surely be conspiring secretly with Zhuge Liang, so he will capture him first, Sima Yi, without waiting for an imperial decree, has his troops cover two days' march in one and heads for Xincheng. Romance, Ch. 94 §39–41
At Xincheng, Meng Da sets a date to rise together with Shen Yi, Administrator of Jincheng, and Shen Dan, Administrator of Shangyong, but the two only feign agreement and wait to act as insiders once the Wei army arrives. When Sima Yi's troops arrive and surround the city on all sides, Meng Da shuts the gates and holds fast, but the next day, taking the troops of Shen Dan and Shen Yi attacking from outside for a relief army, he throws open the gates and charges out. Romance, Ch. 94 §45 · 47–49
When Shen Dan and Shen Yi shout to the rebel not to flee, Meng Da turns his horse to run back into the city, but arrows rain down from the walls, and Li Fu and Deng Xian loudly rebuke him from atop the walls: 'We have already surrendered the city!' Fighting his way out to flee, Meng Da is run through by Shen Dan's spear, falls from his horse and is beheaded. Li Fu and Deng Xian throw open the gates and welcome Sima Yi into the city, and the Wei ruler Cao Rui gives Shen Dan and Shen Yi higher office and has them follow Sima Yi on campaign, while ordering Li Fu and Deng Xian to hold Xincheng and Shangyong. Romance, Ch. 94 §49–51
In Chapter 95, a spy sent to Xincheng reports to Zhuge Liang at the Qishan camp that Sima Yi pressed on at double speed and reached Xincheng in eight days, so that Meng Da had no time to act, and that with Shen Dan, Shen Yi, Li Fu and Deng Xian acting as insiders, Meng Da was killed amid the fighting. The Romance records nothing further about Li Fu. Romance, Ch. 95 §6
